Games & Consoles

As a Christmas gift from my sister-in-law Jill in the very early 1980s, I got an electric game called “Pong.” It hooked up to my television. As I remember it, the hookup included a switch that blanked out the television screen and there were two controllers – one for each player. A year or so later, I received a hand-held game of football where the players were blinking “dashes” and I tried to run “the ball” into the opposing end zone. While both the Pong and football games gave us hours of enjoyment “back in the day,” neither game could hold a candle to the games and consoles of today. It could truly be said about my electronic game-playing in those years: “Simple thoughts for simple minds.” But it’s all we had to play in those days. Today we have PlayStations, Xboxes, and Wii. All of them are at the cutting edge of realism and they are extremely fun to play. I will bet that you could visit a Best Buy store on any day and find someone playing on the demo model set up in their store. Whether it’s playing on an electronic drum set, Guitar Hero on Xbox 360, or Resident Evil on a PlayStation 3, the action is fast and furious, and the players are usually “into” the games so much that they are oblivious to their surroundings, especially in the store!

At a big box store recently, a golf game was on the Wii demo. I played several “holes” on the “golf course” and the action on the screen was so realistic that it even included my slice – just like the real thing.

I recommend these games and consoles. The machinery for games, and the games themselves have improved over the years to be excellent purchases for your money.
